Old Cobblers Farm™ Wicked Growth Carnivorous Plants Fertilizer

Product Overview

Description

Wicked Growth Carnivorous Plant Fertilizer provides the extremely gentle supplemental nutrition that carnivorous plants can safely use without disrupting their unique root systems. The ultra-low 1-1-1 formula delivers trace nutrients that complement the nutrition these plants obtain from captured insects.

Carnivorous plants evolved in nutrient-poor bogs and wetlands where standard soils would be toxic to their specialized root systems. They obtain most of their nutrition by capturing and digesting insects, and exposure to standard fertilizers can damage or kill them.

Essential for Venus flytraps, pitcher plants, sundews, and other carnivorous species grown in terrariums, bog gardens, and specialized collections.

Highlights

• Ultra-safe concentration
• Carnivorous plant safe
• Supplemental nutrition only
• Sensitive root compatible
• All carnivorous species

The Science Behind It

How It Works

This ultra-dilute formula provides minimal supplemental nutrition for carnivorous plants that evolved to obtain nutrients from captured prey rather than soil. Carnivorous plants have extremely limited ability to process soil nutrients and are easily damaged by standard fertilizers. The 1-1-1 ratio at very low concentration mimics the nutrient levels these plants would receive from decomposing insects. Applied as a highly diluted foliar spray, nutrients are absorbed through leaf surfaces as they would be from digested prey.

The Science

Carnivorous plants evolved in nutrient-poor environments (bogs, sandy soils) and developed the ability to trap and digest insects to obtain nitrogen and other nutrients. Their roots lack the capacity to handle the nutrient concentrations present in standard fertilizers. The extremely low 1-1-1 analysis prevents root damage while providing trace amounts of the nutrients that would come from insect prey. This supplements—but doesn't replace—natural feeding for plants grown where prey insects are limited.

Nutrients Available

1% Total Nitrogen – Mimics nitrogen from digested insects without overwhelming sensitive systems. 1% Available Phosphate (P₂O₅) – Supports basic metabolism at carnivorous plant-appropriate levels. 1% Soluble Potash (K₂O) – Maintains cellular function. Ultra-gentle for Venus flytraps, pitcher plants, sundews, and all carnivorous species. Apply diluted as foliar spray only.

How to Apply

1-2 lbs/100 sq ft every 4-6 weeks. Severe deficiency: 2-3 lbs initially.

1

Action:

Survey garden bed and note deficiency symptoms. Map high-need zones.

Pro Tip:

Sandy areas and fruiting sections need more K than shaded areas.

Avoid:

Don't leave granules on surface in hot weather - damages plants.

2

Action:

Calculate 1-2 lbs per 100 sq ft. For 10x20 garden (200 sq ft), use 2-4 lbs.

Pro Tip:

Weigh fertilizer on kitchen scale. One cup 0-0-60 weighs ~0.5 lb.

Avoid:

Don't exceed 2 lbs per 100 sq ft per application. Split heavy doses.

3

Action

Broadcast granules evenly across soil surface. Work into top 2-3 inches with cultivator.

Pro Tip:

Sandy areas and fruiting sections need more K than shaded areas.

Avoid:

Don't spread on windy days - granules drift causing uneven application.

4

Action

Water thoroughly with 1-2 inches to dissolve granules and move K into root zone.

Pro Tip:

Incorporation prevents salt buildup and gets K to roots faster.

Avoid:

Don't leave granules on surface in hot weather - damages plants.

Key Benefits

Carnivore-Safe Formula – Ultra-low concentration provides nutrition without damaging the sensitive root systems of carnivorous plants.

Supplemental Support – Provides additional nutrition when prey capture is insufficient without disrupting natural feeding behavior.

Bog Environment Compatible – Low-salt formula won't alter the acidic, low-nutrient conditions carnivorous plants require.

Foliar Application Safe – Dilute solution can be safely applied to leaves and traps without causing tissue damage.
