Product Overview
Description
Wicked Growth Climbers & Vines Fertilizer provides the phosphorus and potassium-focused nutrition that climbing plants need for abundant flowering, strong stem development, and vigorous but controlled growth. The 5-10-10 ratio promotes flowering over excessive vegetative growth.
Climbing plants and vines have unique nutritional requirements. They need to produce flowering wood and blooms rather than just vegetative growth, and they need strong stems capable of supporting their climbing habit.
Perfect for clematis, wisteria, trumpet vine, morning glory, honeysuckle, climbing hydrangea, and all ornamental climbers. Supports spectacular flowering displays on arbors, trellises, and walls.
Highlights
• Bloom-focused P-K formula
• Strong stem development
• Controlled vegetative growth
• All climbing varieties
• Arbor & trellis plants
The Science Behind It
How It Works
This climbing plant formula provides moderate nitrogen with elevated phosphorus and potassium to support the structural demands of vertical growth. Vines must develop strong stems capable of supporting their own weight while climbing, and extensive root systems to anchor the plant and fuel rapid upward growth. The 1-2-2 ratio supports this by prioritizing root and stem development over excessive leaf production that could make vines top-heavy.
The Science
Climbing plants face unique mechanical challenges—they must support their own weight while extending toward light, often at considerable distances from their root systems. Phosphorus supports the development of extensive root systems that anchor climbing plants and fuel their growth. Potassium strengthens cell walls in stems and tendrils, providing the structural integrity needed for climbing. Moderate nitrogen produces leaves for photosynthesis without creating the soft, heavy growth that causes climbers to collapse.
Nutrients Available
5% Total Nitrogen – Supports foliage without excessive soft growth. 10% Available Phosphate (P₂O₅) – Drives strong root development and flowering. 10% Soluble Potash (K₂O) – Strengthens stems, tendrils, and climbing structures. Formulated for clematis, honeysuckle, wisteria, climbing roses, and all vine species.
How to Apply
1-2 lbs/100 sq ft every 4-6 weeks. Severe deficiency: 2-3 lbs initially.
1
Action:
Survey garden bed and note deficiency symptoms. Map high-need zones.
Pro Tip:
Sandy areas and fruiting sections need more K than shaded areas.
Avoid:
Don't leave granules on surface in hot weather - damages plants.
2
Action:
Calculate 1-2 lbs per 100 sq ft. For 10x20 garden (200 sq ft), use 2-4 lbs.
Pro Tip:
Weigh fertilizer on kitchen scale. One cup 0-0-60 weighs ~0.5 lb.
Avoid:
Don't exceed 2 lbs per 100 sq ft per application. Split heavy doses.
3
Action
Broadcast granules evenly across soil surface. Work into top 2-3 inches with cultivator.
Pro Tip:
Sandy areas and fruiting sections need more K than shaded areas.
Avoid:
Don't spread on windy days - granules drift causing uneven application.
4
Action
Water thoroughly with 1-2 inches to dissolve granules and move K into root zone.
Pro Tip:
Incorporation prevents salt buildup and gets K to roots faster.
Avoid:
Don't leave granules on surface in hot weather - damages plants.
