Old Cobblers Farm™ Wicked Growth Nuts Fertilizer

Product Overview

Description

Wicked Growth Nut Tree Fertilizer delivers the specialized nutrition that long-lived nut trees require for decades of productive harvests. The high-potassium 5-5-10 formula emphasizes root strength, trunk resilience, and nut quality over rapid vegetative growth.

Nut trees are significant investments that may take 5-15 years to reach full production. They require patient, steady nutrition that builds structural strength rather than rapid growth that makes trees vulnerable to wind damage, ice loading, and disease.

Whether establishing a backyard pecan in Texas, managing a commercial walnut orchard in California, or nurturing heritage chestnuts in the Appalachians, this formula provides the patient nutrition that transforms young trees into productive, long-lived assets.

Highlights

• High K for wood strength
• Low N for sustainable growth
• Improves nut size & quality
• Supports long-term tree health
• Winter hardiness enhancement

The Science Behind It

How It Works

This nut tree formula provides conservative nitrogen and phosphorus with elevated potassium to support the unique needs of long-lived perennial nut trees. Low nitrogen prevents excessive vegetative growth that diverts energy from nut production. Elevated potassium supports nut fill, shell development, and oil content. Applied in spring and midsummer, nutrients are absorbed through the extensive root systems of established trees, supporting gradual, sustainable growth and consistent nut production.

The Science

Nut trees require different nutrient ratios than annual crops because they store carbohydrates in woody tissue and roots between seasons. Excess nitrogen stimulates vegetative growth at the expense of nut production and can increase susceptibility to diseases and winter damage. Potassium directly influences nut quality by regulating enzymes involved in oil and protein synthesis within developing kernels. The 1-1-2 ratio supports the heavy potassium demands of nut fill without pushing excessive growth.

Nutrients Available

5% Total Nitrogen – Maintains foliage without excessive shoot growth. 5% Available Phosphate (P₂O₅) – Supports root maintenance and flower bud development. 10% Soluble Potash (K₂O) – Enhances nut fill, kernel quality, oil content, shell strength, and storage life. Formulated for almonds, pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, and all nut-bearing trees.

How to Apply

1-2 lbs/100 sq ft every 4-6 weeks. Severe deficiency: 2-3 lbs initially.

1

Action:

Survey garden bed and note deficiency symptoms. Map high-need zones.

Pro Tip:

Sandy areas and fruiting sections need more K than shaded areas.

Avoid:

Don't leave granules on surface in hot weather - damages plants.

2

Action:

Calculate 1-2 lbs per 100 sq ft. For 10x20 garden (200 sq ft), use 2-4 lbs.

Pro Tip:

Weigh fertilizer on kitchen scale. One cup 0-0-60 weighs ~0.5 lb.

Avoid:

Don't exceed 2 lbs per 100 sq ft per application. Split heavy doses.

3

Action

Broadcast granules evenly across soil surface. Work into top 2-3 inches with cultivator.

Pro Tip:

Sandy areas and fruiting sections need more K than shaded areas.

Avoid:

Don't spread on windy days - granules drift causing uneven application.

4

Action

Water thoroughly with 1-2 inches to dissolve granules and move K into root zone.

Pro Tip:

Incorporation prevents salt buildup and gets K to roots faster.

Avoid:

Don't leave granules on surface in hot weather - damages plants.

Key Benefits

Wood Strength & Durability – High potassium hardens wood tissue, reducing susceptibility to storm damage, ice loading, and branch breakage.

Superior Nut Quality – Potassium improves kernel fill, oil content, and shell strength for premium-quality nuts with excellent storage.

Root System Investment – Balanced phosphorus promotes the extensive root systems that anchor mature trees and sustain productivity for decades.

Disease Resistance – Strengthened cell walls and improved tree vigor reduce susceptibility to bacterial blight, anthracnose, and other diseases.
