Old Cobblers Farm™ Wicked Growth Orchids Fertilizer

Product Overview

Description

Wicked Growth Orchid Fertilizer delivers the high-nitrogen nutrition orchids need during vegetative growth phases to build the strong, healthy leaves and pseudobulbs that support spectacular flowering. The 30-10-10 formula fuels rapid leaf development and root growth.

Orchids have unique nutritional requirements that differ dramatically from other flowering plants. During vegetative growth, they need high nitrogen to develop large, glossy leaves and plump pseudobulbs that store energy for flowering.

Essential for orchid enthusiasts growing Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, Dendrobium, and other popular varieties. Use during active vegetative growth, then transition to a bloom formula when flower spikes begin to emerge.

Highlights

• High nitrogen growth formula
• Builds strong leaf tissue
• Supports pseudobulb development
• Prepares plants for flowering
• All orchid type compatible

The Science Behind It

How It Works

This high-nitrogen formula supports orchids during their vegetative growth phase when building leaves, roots, and pseudobulbs. Orchids grown in bark-based media have limited access to nitrogen as bark decomposition consumes available nitrogen. The 30% nitrogen concentration compensates for this, promoting lush leaf growth and strong root development. The low-salt formulation prevents damage to sensitive orchid roots. Applied weekly at diluted rates, this formula feeds orchids the way they naturally absorb nutrients—frequently and in small amounts.

The Science

Epiphytic orchids evolved to absorb dilute nutrients from rainwater and decomposing organic matter. Their velamen roots are adapted for rapid uptake of available nutrients when present. High nitrogen during vegetative phases drives chlorophyll production in leaves and promotes the development of pseudobulbs—storage organs that fuel future flower spikes. The 3-1-1 ratio mimics the nutrient profile orchids would receive from decomposing organic matter, which is nitrogen-rich relative to other nutrients.

Nutrients Available

30% Total Nitrogen – Fuels vigorous leaf growth and pseudobulb development during vegetative phases. 10% Available Phosphate (P₂O₅) – Supports root development and energy metabolism. 10% Soluble Potash (K₂O) – Builds plant reserves for blooming and improves stress tolerance. Apply diluted; switch to bloom formula when flower spikes emerge.

How to Apply

1-2 lbs/100 sq ft every 4-6 weeks. Severe deficiency: 2-3 lbs initially.

1

Action:

Survey garden bed and note deficiency symptoms. Map high-need zones.

Pro Tip:

Sandy areas and fruiting sections need more K than shaded areas.

Avoid:

Don't leave granules on surface in hot weather - damages plants.

2

Action:

Calculate 1-2 lbs per 100 sq ft. For 10x20 garden (200 sq ft), use 2-4 lbs.

Pro Tip:

Weigh fertilizer on kitchen scale. One cup 0-0-60 weighs ~0.5 lb.

Avoid:

Don't exceed 2 lbs per 100 sq ft per application. Split heavy doses.

3

Action

Broadcast granules evenly across soil surface. Work into top 2-3 inches with cultivator.

Pro Tip:

Sandy areas and fruiting sections need more K than shaded areas.

Avoid:

Don't spread on windy days - granules drift causing uneven application.

4

Action

Water thoroughly with 1-2 inches to dissolve granules and move K into root zone.

Pro Tip:

Incorporation prevents salt buildup and gets K to roots faster.

Avoid:

Don't leave granules on surface in hot weather - damages plants.

Key Benefits

Vigorous Vegetative Growth – High nitrogen fuels rapid leaf development and strong new growth that stores energy for spectacular flowering.

Strong Root Development – Balanced phosphorus promotes the healthy root systems orchids need in bark-based growing media.

Pseudobulb Building – Complete nutrition supports the plump, healthy pseudobulbs that serve as energy reserves for bloom production.

Deep Green Foliage – Adequate nitrogen produces the dark green, glossy leaves that indicate healthy, vigorous orchid plants.
